Michael Kirshner

Born in Los Angeles and now a proud New Yorker for almost a decade, I'm a multi-hyphenate filmmaker specializing in all aspects of production from pre to post. While I have experience in everything from gaffing and working as an assistant camera, editing, coloring, and production managing, I'm most passionate about directing, writing, and cinematography, as I'm driven by crafting compelling stories, the camaraderie and collaboration of creative teams, and solving the unique puzzles each project brings. 

 

My approach is all about creative solutions, whether that's rigging an unconventional shot, directing with a fresh perspective, or weaving the final narrative in post-production. Some recent career highlights include Fig Jam, a short film I wrote, directed and edited, that was featured at ScreamFest 2023, as well as studio work over the last 3 years where I served as the director of photography on over 80 short films and one feature film.

In addition to filmmaking, I'm passionate about hiking, snowboarding, and cooking, and a dream of mine would be to weave some of these things into my filmmaking work. I've had the opportunity to do some cooking and food videos and am also interested in doing production work that brings me into nature, both for the beauty of the surroundings and for the unique challenge that shooting outside of a studio setting presents.
